MUNISING, MI--   A fundraiser to help those affected by the partial government shutdown is being held in Munising on Friday.

Alger County Action is a group of residents working toward an equitable and sustainable society. Member Johanna Bogater is organizing the event. She says the Furloughed Fundraiser aims to help federal workers and their families who are struggling because of the shutdown.

“We have a lot of people in our community that are experiencing this and there’s definitely some people that are hurting. It might be the only income in their family that they’re not able to earn right now, so… A lot of people are affected and we just—we wanted to do something for them,” she says.

The event will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Falling Rock Café and Bookstore in Munising. Food will be provided, as well as music from the Falling Rock Acoustic Jammers. Although donations are requested, the event is free and open to the public.

Bogater says besides the financial aspect of the fundraiser, Alger County Action is hoping to raise people’s spirits and let federal workers know they’re not alone.
