Update: M-28 closed; State Police urge motorists to stay home

UPDATED 4:36pm - Highway M-28 between Marquette and Munising has been closed until further notice. the alternate route is M-94 from Munising to US-41 in Skandia.

Road closure barricades have been set up at the M-28 and US-41 intersection in Marquette and on M-28 in Munising.

Blizzard condition have visibility down to zero. There are vehicles stuck in the roadway, and snow plows are unable to plow the roadway.

State Police remind motorists that those who choose to disregard a traffic control device can be held responsible for a a civil infraction ticket. Police will be patrolling near the barricades.

Michigan State Police and the Alger and Marquette County Road Commissions are reporting poor road conditions on M-28 and M-94 between Marquette and Munising due to blizzard-like conditions.  

Visibility is reduced in open areas due to blowing snow and traffic lanes are reduced due to drifting snow.

Officials say travel on those roadways between Marquette and Munising is not recommended at this time.
