UPDATE: Two die in Ironwood Township accident

UPDATE, 5/20/19:  Police have released the names of those involved in the crash.

The two females who were pronounced dead at the scene were Lauren Powless, 18, and Madeline Jackson, 15. Zachery Hammon, 20, survived the accident.

No other information is being released at this time.

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two teens were killed in a single-vehicle crash in Gogebic County Saturday.

Sheriff’s officials say it happened around 2:30 a.m. on Lake Road near Powers Road in Ironwood Township. A vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a tree. It sustained severe damage.

Deputies say a 20-year-old man survived the crash. He walked to a nearby residence to report the accident. Two girls—ages 18 and 15—did not survive. The man was taken to Aspirus Ironwood, treated and released.

No names have been released.

The crash remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
