US Sen. Peters promotes college credit bill in Lansing

LANSING, MI (AP)--   U.S. Senator Gary Peters is visiting Lansing to promote legislation he introduced in February to make it easier for high school students to earn college credit.

The Michigan Democrat spoke Monday during an event at Lansing Community College. His office says the bill would offer grants to colleges for high school dual and concurrent enrollment programs.

Peters' office says about 1.9 million high school students across the U.S. enrolled in a college course in the 2014-2015 school year.

The bill also would allow grant money to go toward professional development for teachers working in these programs and for related support service, designing courses, community outreach and student counseling.
