USDA money to benefit UP towns

MARQUETTE, MI--   Two Upper Peninsula communities will use U.S. Department of Agriculture loans and grants to improve their water infrastructure.

The City of Houghton is getting a $1.9 million loan and $974,000 grant. The money will go toward replacing the sewer main on nine streets. The upgrades will serve 3,856 users.

The City of Manistique is getting a $225,000 loan and $1.03 million grant. They will be used to replace undersized water mains and fix the current sewer system, which is not currently in compliance with permitting because of combined sewer overflows. The project will serve 3,171 users.
