Vape shop owner applauds judge's block of vaping ban

HOUGHTON, MI--   The U.P. man who sued the state over Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s ban on flavored vaping products says he’s grateful he can reopen his shop.

Marc Slis owns 906 Vapor in Houghton. Despite vaping-related illnesses and deaths reported across the country he believes vaping is healthier than smoking tobacco.

“I’ve spent the last five-and-a-half years studying it, first as a user of electronic cigarettes—which I used to quit smoking, quit a 41-year smoking habit—and then as a shop owner,” he says.

The governor and Attorney General Dana Nessel say the products attract children and are a health threat. They say they’ll take the issue to the Michigan Supreme Court.

Slis says he’ll see them there.

“I’m willing to do whatever it takes. This is a matter of many lives and I’ll fight it as long as I have to.”

A judge says the ban must be lifted while the case makes its way through the courts.

Slis says he’d have to declare bankruptcy if the ban is permanently reinstated.
