Vulcan man dies in Lake Township accident

LAKE TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Menominee County Monday.

WLUC-TV reports it happened around 1:35 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 356 and County Road 577 in Lake Township. The Menominee County Sheriff’s Office says the vehicles were driven by Croy Smith, 36, of Niagara, Wisconsin; Perry Kelly, 59, of Daggett; and a 19-year-old Stephenson man.

Deputies say the Stephenson man caused the crash by running a stop sign. The collision ejected a passenger – identified as Derek Bryant, 29, of Vulcan – from one of the vehicles. Bryant died as a result of his injuries.

The driver from Stephenson suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. He was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs, causing death. He remains in the custody of the medical facility on a $50,000 personal recognizance bond.

Anyone who has additional information about the crash is asked to call the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office at 906-863-4441.
