Walleye Jamboree beginning near Pickford

michigan-sportsman.com

PICKFORD, MI (AP)--   A fishing tournament in the Eastern Upper Peninsula is expected to draw as many as 400 anglers wanting to reel in the biggest catch.

The four-day Walleye Jamboree hosted by the Soo Area Sportsmen's Club began at 1 a.m. Thursday on Munuscong Bay in Pickford.  The Evening News reports that the registered angler who weighs in the biggest walleye before noon Sunday will win the $700 top prize.

Spokesman Tom Ball says these are the best fishing conditions leading up to the tournament that he's seen in at least 15 years of overseeing the Walleye Jamboree.  He says anglers will be confined to Munuscong bay because the deeper water channels don't appear to have enough ice.
