Wash your boat at Lac La Belle and get rid of invasive hitchhikers

LAC LA BELLE, MI--   Michigan’s Mobile Boat Wash is coming to the Keweenaw this weekend to educate boaters about invasive species.

An outreach program of Michigan State University, the trailer-mounted unit uses high-pressure heated water to clean most organisms from boats and trailers.  Officials from the school’s Department of Fisheries & Wildlife say it’s illegal to launch a boat in the state if there are plants attached to it.  They say the boat wash teaches boaters to “Clean, Drain, and Dry” so invasive species aren’t carried to other bodies of water.

Michigan’s Mobile Boat Wash will be available to boaters at Lac La Belle on Sunday, July 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
