Wednesday morning accident in Chocolay

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was taken to Marquette General Hospital after two cars collided in Chocolay Township. 

The crash happened Wednesday morning on US-41 at the Welcome Center.  Joan Hill, 84, of Harvey pulled out of the Welcome Center parking lot and was hit by a northbound vehicle driven by 36-year-old Mary Welch. 

Hill was taken to MGH for treatment, while Welch sought her own.  

Hill was cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
