Wells Township business a total loss after fire

WELLS TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Delta County business has been destroyed by a massive fire.

The Escanaba Department of Public Safety was called Tuesday around 11:45 a.m. to Pete’s Auto Wrecking on US-2/41 in Wells Township. They say a fork lift operator had struck a power line, which fell across a metal pole building. The line started arcing, which caused the building to catch on fire. Flames quickly spread through the building to attached structures.

Several volunteer fire departments responded and helped extinguish the fire, but the business is a total loss.

No injuries were reported.

Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by Delta County Central Dispatch, the Ford River Township Volunteer Fire Department, Escanaba Township Volunteer Fire Department, Cornell Township Volunteer Fire Department, Brampton Township Volunteer Fire Department, Harris Township Volunteer Fire Department, Bark River Volunteer Fire Department, Michigan Department of Natural Resources Fire Division, Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police Gladstone Post, Rampart EMS, Red Cross, UPPCO, and Brunette & Son excavation.
