MANISTIQUE, MI--   A 32-year-old woman is lodged in the Schoolcraft County Jail, following a head-on crash on M-94 in Manistique.

Police say the accident happened Monday around 2:40 p.m. at the Siphon Bridge.  They say an eastbound pickup driven by the woman crossed the centerline and struck a westbound SUV driven by Franca Catini, 67, of Algonquin, Illinois.  Catini and her 69-year-old husband, Francis, were taken to Schoolcraft County Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The driver of the pickup was arrested for operating while impaired and operating without a driver’s license.  Further charges may be forthcoming.  Her name is being withheld, pending arraignment.

She remains jailed on a $250,000 cash or surety bond.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
