Woman found dead in Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI--The Escanaba Public Safety Department is investigating the death of a woman in the city. 

Officers were called Wednesday around 12:40 p.m. to an apartment building on the 800 block of 2nd Avenue South.  The original dispatch was for a welfare check of an individual who hadn’t been seen or heard from in a couple of days.  Responding officers forced entry into an apartment and found a deceased 41-year-old woman.

The circumstances surrounding the death of the woman are unknown at this time.  Investigation continues in an attempt to determine the cause of death. 

Assisting at the scene were Rampart EMS, the Delta County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Michigan State Police Crime Labs from Marquette and Grayling.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
