Woman killed in Iron County

ALPHA, MI--    The Iron County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible murder/suicide attempt in the town of Alpha. 

Wednesday around 9:50 p.m. deputies responded to a residence on a report that shots had been fired.  They found Jamie Lee James, 29, deceased in the house and a male subject near her. 

The man was taken to Iron River Aspirus Hospital and later airlifted to a hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.

The man’s name is not being released until the investigation is complete.  Deputies say there is no pending threat to the community.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Crystal Falls Police Department, Michigan State Police, Aspirus EMS, and Iron County Central Dispatch.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
