Woman threatens to blow up Escanaba building

ESCANABA, MI--   A woman may face criminal charges, after she threatened to blow up the Social Security Administration building in Escanaba.

The Escanaba Department of Public Safety says the 50-year-old contacted the Department of Health and Human Services on March 15. She was reportedly upset over a disputed benefit refund when she made the threat. She then stated she was just kidding.

Officers interviewed the woman. They determined she had not made any plans to carry out the threat, nor was she intent on doing so.

Police notified the FBI and the Office of Inspector General of the Social Security Administration and DHHS. The case was referred to the Delta County Prosecutor’s Office for a criminal charge review.
