Woman tries to rob Marquette credit union

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Marquette woman was jailed after she tried to rob a local credit union over the weekend. 

City Police were dispatched Saturday just before 10 a.m. to a robbery in progress at the Marquette Community Federal Credit Union. An unarmed woman had entered the credit union and demanded money. She tried to take a check and computer monitor.

The suspect was subdued by a male customer until police arrived.

Sharon McNeil, 66, of Marquette was arrested and charged with bank robbery and larceny in a building.

She remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Northern Michigan University Police Department and Michigan State Police assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
