The world of winter sports is offered to women at Bay Cliff next month

MARQUETTE, MI--   Female outdoor enthusiasts and the Department of Natural Resources are gearing up for this year’s Becoming an Outdoors-Woman winter program.

U.P. BOW coordinator Sharon Pitz says the program is a chance for women to try such activities as cross-country skiing, ice fishing, dog sledding and snow shoeing in a pressure-free environment.

“Women can get together and not be intimidated and learn a new sport, you know, because most of the classes are taught by women,” she says.  “There are a few male instructors there, but it just makes it a non-threatening, non-competitive-type way that they can basically learn a new sport and of course also make new friends.”

The BOW takes place Friday, February 28 through Sunday, March 2 at Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay.

Pitz urges people to sign up soon, as the majority of the program’s 80 spots are already taken.
