Investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office indicates a 7-year-old girl was driving the ATV when it hit a tree. Her passenger, 8-year-old Rebekah Chapman of Niagara, was thrown from the 4-wheeler. She was taken to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, where she later died of her injuries.

The driver of the ATV wasn’t injured.

Police say neither girl was wearing a helmet or protective gear at the time of the crash.
