Superior String Alliance / Marquette Symphony Orchestra / Ore Dock Brewing Company

The Marquette Symphony Orchestra is holding another Summer Strings concert this summer, and this time they bring fellow musicians from the Superior String Alliance Chamber Players.  In partnership with the Hiawatha Music Co-Op and the Ore Dock Brewing Company, the second Summer Strings concert takes place at the brewery Wednesday July 18th.  Concertmaster and string player Janis Peterson came back to our studio to tell us about this collaborative event.

The Superior String Alliance Chamber Players are going on their annual summer tour July 17-20, and they are sharing concerts with different local musicians.  They also have their summer camp for string students young and old.  Danielle Simandl, Executive Director of the SSA came to Public Radio 90 to talk about the events.

The Upper Peninsula Shakespeare Festival, also known as UP Shakes, will present "Bug" by Tracy Letts at the upstairs Community Room of the Ore Dock Brewing Company this summer 2018.  We spoke with the Artistic Director of UP Shakes, Jamie Weeder about the core story of the play and what the audience can expect.

TaMaMa Dance Company Facebook page

The TaMaMa Dance Company performed their first full-length dance performance last summer, called "Horizon."  This summer, they present "FLOW," another full-length performance featuring original choreography, original music, video projections and lighting, all on the Forest Roberts Theatre stage.  Kurt Hauswirth spoke with Marissa Marquardson, Maggie Barch, and Maria Formolo about the project, the creative process, and how the dance, music and light come together.

Marquette Symphony Orchestra / Marquette 365

Janis Peterson is the concertmaster and a performer in the Marquette Symphony Orchestra, and she stopped by our studios to talk about the MSO's Summer Strings Concert.  The Summer Strings are a small ensemble of string players from the MSO that perform in public spaces and spotlight the strings section of the orchestra.

Ore Dock Brewing Company / Anthony Reynolds

Kurt Hauswirth spoke with Jon Teichman, one of many involved with turning the upstairs of the Ore Dock Brewing Company in Marquette, MI into a treasure-trove of music and discussion.  The Ore Dock Vinyl Show returns to the ODBC June 19 - 23.
