MARQUETTE, MI--   A Marquette man has been arrested for trying to rob a city business.

Around 6:25 a.m. Thursday the Marquette Police Department responded to a complaint at the Freedom gas station. The suspect reportedly handed an employee a note that said he was armed and to give him money. The attendant refused to comply and the suspect left the store.

Moments later the suspect was arrested on the 400 block of Washington Street without incident.

JACKSON, MI (AP)--   A man who said he committed a crime so he could return to prison apparently killed himself in a 40-foot plunge. 

The Corrections Department says 59-year-old Mark Wilson died Wednesday at Egeler Reception & Guidance Center, where inmates typically are housed before getting a prison assignment.

In December, Wilson was sentenced to at least 25 years in prison for armed robbery at the Escanaba Hardee’s, a punishment that was enhanced because of past convictions.

He told a judge that he had lost the “ability to function normally” in society.

ESCANABA, MI (AP)--   A 59-year-old Michigan man who says he robbed a business so he could return to prison could be locked up for the rest of his life. 

Mark Wilson was sentenced this week to at least 25 years in prison for armed robbery and he'll be in his 80s when he's eligible for parole. Police say Wilson, from Portage, gave a note to a Hardee's employee in Escanaba last July, indicating that he was robbing the restaurant. He waited in a restroom until police arrived.

Wilson told a judge that he's “lost the ability to function normally with society.”

SAWYER, MI--   A Sawyer man is in custody for armed robbery at the Sawyer Village Shoppette. 

WLUC-TV reports police were notified around 6:15 p.m. Thursday a man had tried to steal items from the store. The suspect allegedly pulled a knife when the clerk confronted him outside the building. The suspect then fled the scene and entered a house.

Forsyth Township Police and Michigan State Police arrested the man at the residence for armed robbery.

The suspect remains lodged at the Marquette County Jail.

COLEMAN, WI--   The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect in the armed robbery of a Coleman, Wisconsin grocery store.

Deputies were dispatched Saturday around 6:15 p.m. to the Piggly Wiggly. Witnesses say a white man wearing a long sleeve shirt, dark pants, grey shoes and a Milwaukee Brewers hat threatened a clerk with a gun and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Landmark Inn robbed

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette City Police are investigating a robbery at the Landmark Inn Thursday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the hotel around 4:30 a.m. They say a suspect wearing a partial black mask and sunglasses left the Landmark with an undisclosed amount of cash. He reportedly had a firearm in his waistband.

The suspect is described as a thin man, approximately 5'6" to 5'8" tall. He was wearing a gray Hilfiger hoodie and tan and gray flannel pajama-type pants. 

NEGAUNEE, MI--   An Ishpeming Township man has been arrested in connection with the robbery of Irontown Pasties in Negaunee.

Patrick Earl Fisher, 37, is accused of entering the restaurant Tuesday evening, brandishing a handgun, and fleeing the scene with money from the register. He was identified and taken into custody early Wednesday morning at an Ishpeming Township residence.

Fisher is charged with one count of armed robbery. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.

NEGAUNEE, MI--   Negaunee Police are investigating an armed robbery at Irontown Pasties.

They say Tuesday around 9:48 p.m. a masked male suspect entered the restaurant, which was occupied by a lone female employee. He brandished a handgun and demanded money from the register. The suspect fled on foot with approximately $475.

A description given by the employee and video surveillance from the restaurant led to identification of a suspect. He was found at an Ishpeming residence and taken into custody around 2:13 Wednesday morning.

GOGEBIC COUNTY, MI--   The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office has arrested five people in connection with a home invasion and armed robbery in Marenisco Township last year. 

It happened December 18 at a residence on East Shore Road. The suspects took money and guns.

Todd Norton, 47, of New London, Wisconsin is lodged in the Gogebic County Jail for armed robbery, 1st-degree home invasion, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, felony firearms and possession of a firearm by a felon.

STEPHENSON, MI--   A suspect in a Stephenson bank robbery is in custody in Marinette, Wisconsin.

Saturday around 11 a.m. troopers from the Gladstone Post were dispatched to mBank on a report of an armed robbery.

A joint investigation with the FBI Marquette office resulted in the identification of a suspect. He was located and arrested shortly before midnight in the city of Marinette, then lodged in the county jail pending extradition.
