MARQUETTE, MI--   An Ishpeming man has been convicted of two felonies, following a two-day bench trial streamed on the internet. 

Justin Langsford, 38, was convicted in 25th Circuit Court Wednesday of assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder and domestic violence - 3rd offense. Normally those felonies are punishable by up to 10 and 5 years, respectively, but because of Langsford’s history of being a habitual offender with three prior felony convictions, they’re now punishable by up to life in prison.

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   An Iron Mountain man charged with severely beating a 27-year-old woman in June has been sentenced in Dickinson County Circuit Court. 

Bobby Winebarger, Jr., 36, was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder following the attack. The weapon was identified as a two-foot socket wrench.

The victim suffered significant injuries and had to undergo emergency surgery. Officials say she lost her spleen.

Winebarger pleaded guilty October 15. He was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months to 10 years in prison.

Iron Mountain Police Department

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   An Iron Mountain man is in custody for seriously injuring a woman. 

Tuesday at 7:20 p.m. the Iron Mountain Police Department was dispatched to the Dickinson County Hospital Emergency Department. Officers say a 27-year-old woman had suffered significant injuries and needed emergency surgery.

A search warrant was issued for a residence in north Iron Mountain. Police say they found evidence related to the assault as well as a suspect, identified as Bobby Lee Winebarger, Jr., 35.

CASPIAN, MI--   A Caspian man has been arrested for felonious assault in connection with a domestic violence incident. 

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched Tuesday around 6:50 p.m. to a residence in the city. Deputies made contact with the victim and found the suspect had fled the scene. While deputies and state police troopers searched the area the suspect returned to the residence with a knife. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

MARQUETTE, MI--   A woman accused of assaulting another woman at an Ishpeming motel in January is headed to trial. 

Chloe Shumate, 22, is charged with assault with intent to murder, two counts of unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation, and interfering with electronic communications causing injury or death.

The assault allegedly happened at the Wonderland Motel. The 36-year-old victim was taken to UPHS-Bell for treatment.

ESCANABA, MI--   A driver accused of causing two accidents in Escanaba was arrested for several felonies Saturday night. 

MARQUETTE, MI--   A man who fled the scene following an assault in Ishpeming last year has been sentenced.

David Bellmer, 39, was taken into custody nearly a month after the July 31 incident on East North Street. The victim said she was able to escape the house following the assault and call 911. Bellmer left before police arrived.

Bellmer was accused of strangling the victim. He pleaded no contest to one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.

Bellmer was sentenced to 3 to 8 years in prison with credit for 282 days already served.

ESCANABA, MI--   An Escanaba man who pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon has been sentenced. 

Joshua Myers, 33, was accused of inflicting a 3- to 4-inch cut on another man’s neck in an August 21 incident in Escanaba. The 26-year-old victim sustained a superficial injury.

Myers was originally charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and habitual offender, fourth offense. He pleaded to assault with a dangerous weapon and the other charges were dropped.

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Marquette man has been charged in connection with a stabbing incident in Negaunee last month. 

The Negaunee Police Department says it happened December 10. Tyler Yelle, 31, is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery.

He remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $100,000 cash/surety bond.

The male victim received medical treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. 

MANISTIQUE, MI--   A Manistique man has been arrested for a violent home invasion incident in the city early Tuesday morning.  

Manistique Public Safety was called around 11 a.m. to a home on the 600 block of Manistique Avenue on a report that someone had broken in and assaulted a woman who lived there. Officers determined it had happened in the early morning hours and that there was a second victim, who lived several blocks away on Garden Avenue.
