MARENISCO TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two people are injured, following a single-vehicle crash in Gogebic County.

Sheriff’s officials say it happened Monday at 4:40 a.m. on M-64 near Bingham Bay. The driver of a southbound vehicle lost control, left the roadway, and struck a tree. The collision ignited a fire, but a passerby was able to help get the driver and passenger out before the vehicle was consumed.

Joshua Robinson, 28, of Core, West Virginia and Donna Kossman, 29, of White Pine were taken to Aspirus Ironwood Hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Michigan State Police from the St. Ignace Post are trying to determine the identity of remains found in a burning vehicle Tuesday. 

Troopers were called around 6 a.m. to East Simmons Road in Mackinac County’s Marquette Township on a report of a vehicle that was fully engulfed in the middle of the road. The human remains were found once the flames were extinguished.

Officials say dental records and/or DNA testing will be used to determine the person’s identity.

ISHPEMING, MI--   The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a car fire in the city of Ishpeming.

Thursday morning around 6:00 deputies, along with members of the Ishpeming Fire Department, Ishpeming 

Township Fire Department, and Rescue 131 were dispatched to Northridge Lane and found the Ford Fusion engulfed. The fire was extinguished, but no driver was found at the scene.

Officials say the car was apparently northbound on Northridge Lane when it left the roadway and struck several trees before coming to rest on the driver’s side.

ESCANABA, MI--   No injuries are reported from a car fire in Escanaba. 

Monday around 4:30 p.m. Public Safety officers were called to 415 North Lincoln Road and found flames coming out of the engine compartment of a vehicle. Officers extinguished the fire, but the engine suffered extensive damage.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

ESCANABA, MI--   A car fire has damaged an Escanaba hotel.  

Public Safety officers were called to the Lincoln Host Motor Inn on North Lincoln Road Sunday around 5:10 a.m. and found a vehicle’s engine compartment engulfed in flames.  The blaze was extinguished, but heat from the fire caused damage to siding on the hotel. 

No injuries were reported. 

The fire remains under investigation. 

POWELL TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Big Bay woman has been arrested for drunk driving after her car caught fire in Powell Township.  

Troopers from the Negaunee Post say the incident happened Sunday around 4 a.m. on County Road 550 near County Road KCH.  They say the 45-year-old driver lost control of her northbound vehicle, which hit a snow bank and became stuck.  As the driver tried to free the vehicle it caught fire and was fully engulfed by the time police arrived.
