Chamber Music

Marquette Symphony Orchestra

The Marquette Symphony Orchestra is holding its 4th Annual Chamber Collage Concert. A change of venue means new opportunities for what audiences can expect to see and hear, as the concert takes place at the Forest Roberts Theatre (on Northern Michigan University's campus). The concert is a fundraising opportunity for the orchestra, as local and travelling musicians come together to perform a mix of fun and serious selections that highlight different musical instrument families.

Concertmaster Janis Peterson was our guest at Public Radio 90 during Classiclectic, and told listeners what to expect at the 4th version of the Collage Concert for the MSO:

Midsummer's Music will present their 29th season of chamber music in the Door County area of Wisconsin.  The theme this year is "Mendelssohn, Mozart, and Much, Much More," with music from not only those composers, but also Brahms, Schubert, Schumann and others.

Classiclectic host Kurt Hauswirth spoke with the festival's founder Jim Berkenstock (who is also the Artistic Director) about what audience members can expect this year:

Gernot Wolfgang is a composer, born in Austria, who moved to Los Angeles with dreams of becoming a film composer.  He started his life in Austria in the jazz scene, but also began composing.  Over the years, he became well-versed in jazz, chamber music, and film score music; his newest album, "Vienna and the West," reflects this background through his compositional output.

Classiclectic host Kurt Hauswirth had an opportunity to speak with Gernot on the phone about his new collection, dubbed "Groove Oriented Chamber Music."
