MARQUETTE, MI--   A Marquette man has been arrested for possession of child sexually abusive materials and using a computer to commit a crime.

MENOMINEE, MI--   A former Menominee County Sheriff’s deputy who pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct with a teenager faces more charges in another case involving a minor.

Brian Helfert, 57, was arraigned Friday on 11 charges, including child sexually abusive activity; four counts of 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct; three counts of 3rd-degree CSC; assault with intent to commit penetration; gross indecency between males; and being a sexually delinquent person.

HOUGHTON, MI--   A Hancock man is headed to trial on child pornography charges.

Justin Covert, 32, was arrested in August and charged with three counts of aggravated child sexually abusive activity, three counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive activity and six counts of using a computer to commit a crime.

The Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force initiated the investigation. A search warrant served on Covert’s residence netted several internet-capable devices and evidence. 

HANCOCK, MI--   Michigan State Police have arrested a Hancock man for his involvement with child pornography.

Justin Covert, 32, is charged with three counts of aggravated child sexually abusive activity, three counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive activity, and six counts of using a computer to commit a crime.

The MSP Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force initiated the investigation. A search warrant served on Covert’s residence netted several internet-capable devices and evidence.

MENOMINEE, MI--   A Menominee man was arrested Monday for having child sexually abusive material.

The Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force conducted an investigation of Nicholas Barstow, 24. It stemmed from a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. A search of Barstow’s residence uncovered multiple internet-capable devices and evidence.

NEWBERRY, MI--   A Newberry man has been arrested on 35 charges related to child pornography. 

An investigation by the Michigan State Police Internet Crimes against Children Task Force resulted in the arrest of Glenn Sutton, 46, Monday. The case was launched by a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. A search warrant executed at his home netted multiple internet capable devices and evidence.

MARQUETTE, MI--   A former Marquette resident has been arrested on several child pornography charges.

The Marquette Police Department says Thursday around 4:30 p.m. Edward James Charboneau, 49, was arrested at a house on Eagle Street in Forsyth Township. The Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a 74-count felony warrant against him. It includes 35 counts of child sexually abusive activity, 2 counts of child sexually abusive material – aggravated possession, and 37 counts of using a computer to commit a crime.

ESCANABA, MI--   A Delta County man is headed to prison for possessing child sexually abusive material.

The Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigated Michael Saari, 66, of Gladstone. The investigation revealed Saari had been downloading child pornography on his personal computer.

He was arrested April 20 and charged with five counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and five counts of using a computer to commit a crime.

ESCANABA, MI--   A preliminary exam is set for an Escanaba man arrested on various charges related to child pornography. 

John Schiska was taken into custody last week and charged with 14 felonies related to the possession of child sexually abusive material, distribution of child sexually abusive material, and using a computer to commit a crime. The case was investigated by the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 8 in Delta County District Court.

KINCHELOE, MI--   A Kincheloe man has been arrested for sexually assaulting a minor. 

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint last Wednesday and executed a search warrant at a residence Thursday. They arrested William Mastaw, 19, who was arraigned on three counts each of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, producing child sexually abusive material, using a computer in commission of a felony, possession of child sexually abusive material, and accosting a minor for immoral purposes.
