Delta Airlines

SAWYER, MI--   Delta Airlines is increasing the number of flights each day at Sawyer International Airport.

Beginning Thursday the Detroit time will return to an early-morning departure.

American Airlines will add a second flight to Chicago beginning July 7.

Sawyer has enacted enhanced protocols to keep passengers safe. They include additional hand-sanitizing stations and the frequent disinfecting of high-touch surfaces.

DETROIT, MI (AP)--   The new coronavirus is taking a broader toll on airline travel.

Most airlines have already stopped flying to China, and now Delta Air Lines is sharply cutting back on flights between the U.S. and Seoul, South Korea, because of the outbreak.

Delta said Wednesday it will suspend flights between Minneapolis and Seoul beginning this weekend and lasting until at least April 30. The airline will also reduce the number of flights from Korea to Atlanta, Detroit and Seattle.

DETROIT, MI (AP)--   A Delta Air Lines spokesman says a flight on its way to Seoul, South Korea, had to dump fuel and return to Detroit Metropolitan Airport after a cockpit light showed there was possibly an open maintenance panel on the outside of the aircraft.

The Detroit Free Press reports that spokesman Trebor Banstetter said Flight 159 took off from Detroit at 4:48 p.m. Saturday and that the indicator light came on about 30 minutes later.

Sawyer numbers up

Jan 14, 2014

SAWYER, MI--   More passengers used Sawyer International Airport last year than in 2012.

Officials say 83,799 passengers traveled to or through the airport in 2013.  That’s 7,798 more passengers—or a 10.26 percent increase—over 2012 numbers.

Airport Manager Duane DuRay says negotiations with American and Delta Airlines are underway.  He believes if the passenger trend continues at Sawyer the airport could offer additional service.
