Fadwa Hammoud

LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   The Michigan Supreme Court heard arguments Wednesday on whether it was legal for the state Legislature to adopt citizen-led ballot initiatives last year, then quickly change them.

State Solicitor General Fadwa Hammoud argued against the “adopt and amend” move. She said the Legislature thwarted the will of the people who signed the initiatives.

“This would create a permanent escape route for the Legislature, for the people to never get their voice through initiative power.”

FLINT, Mich. (AP) — A lawyer who has taken over prosecution of Flint water criminal cases says she needs more time to review charges against a former city manager and ex-public works director.
Fadwa Hammoud of the attorney general's office says she's doing "due diligence." She told a judge on Thursday she's not ready to proceed against Darnell Earley and Howard Croft. She says, "There's a lot of things in this case that I do not agree with."

LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   There’s a new attorney in charge of the criminal cases surrounding the Flint water crisis.

Fadwa Hammoud was just appointed as Michigan’s new Solicitor General. Within hours of that announcement, the Attorney General’s office said Hammoud would also be taking on the role of lead attorney in the Flint water crisis criminal cases.

The investigation into the administration of former Governor Rick Snyder was started by former Attorney General Bill Schuette. He had appointed Todd Flood as a “special prosecutor.” He’ll stay on and report to Hammoud.
