NAHMA TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Wisconsin man has died in a Delta County traffic accident.

Michigan State Police from the Gladstone Post say the crash happened Friday around 10:30 a.m. on U.S. 2 near 24.5 Lane in Nahma Township.

Investigation indicates the man was hauling hot tar in a semi tractor-trailer when he drove into the ditch on the south side of the highway.

Bystanders started CPR on the driver until first responders arrived. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

CALUMET TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person has been killed in a single-vehicle crash in Calumet Township.

It happened Tuesday around 4:30 p.m. on US-41 near #4 Road in Centennial Heights. The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office says a Blazer was northbound when the driver went off the paved portion of the road and hit the gravel shoulder. The 65-year-old Houghton man then overcorrected the vehicle, which went back on the paved roadway, slid sideways, and rolled over.

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   The names of those involved in a fatal crash in Chippewa County have been released.

It happened Monday around 2:20 a.m. on northbound I-75 near 6 Mile Road. Deputies say Kole Rabb, 22, of Kalamazoo was driving and may have fallen asleep at the wheel. The vehicle hit the median and rolled several times.

Rabb was taken to War Memorial Hospital, where he remains with what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger in the vehicle, Stacy Lynn Hough, 27, was killed in the crash.

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   Northbound I-75 in Chippewa County is reopen, following a fatal crash this morning.

Around 2:20 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene near 6 Mile Road. Early reports indicate a young Kalamazoo man was driving and may have fallen asleep. The vehicle drove into the median and rolled over multiple times.

The passenger—a young Sault Ste. Marie female—did not survive.

I-75 was closed for about three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

No names are being released at this time.

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in connection with a fatal accident on I-75 in January.

On the evening of January 10 a small car left the road just north of Gaines Highway. It struck a reflector pole and became stuck in the snow. Investigation revealed the driver and all three passengers had been drinking.

Two of the passengers—wearing dark-colored clothing—began walking southbound in the traffic lane of I-75. A southbound pickup truck struck the two, killing one and injuring the other.

UPDATE:  The victim is identified as George L Hansen, 82, of Wisconsin.

WETMORE, MI--   A snowmobiler has been struck and killed by a vehicle in Alger County.

The Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 8:25 Friday morning in Wetmore. Reports indicate a snowmobile was crossing M-28 near Knox Street when it drove into the path of an eastbound vehicle.

The operator of the snowmobile was taken to UPHS-Marquette, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle that struck the snowmobile was not injured.

DELTA COUNTY, MI--   One person has been killed in a traffic crash on US-2/41 in Delta County.

Saturday around 9:20 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies and the Hannahville Police Department were dispatched to the Hyde area and found an unresponsive man at the scene. They say the 59-year-old Schaefer man had been eastbound when he crossed the centerline and hit a westbound vehicle driven by a 22-year-old woman from Bark River.

The female driver and two of her passengers were taken to St. Francis Hospital, where they were treated and released.

BARAGA TOWNSHIP, MI--   A L’Anse woman has been killed in an accident in Baraga County.

The Sheriff’s Office says it happened Wednesday around 7:30 a.m. on Mission Road just south of US-41 in Baraga Township.

The driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee was killed in the crash. She’s identified as Beth LaFernier, 21, of L’Anse.

No other details are available at this time.

The accident remains under investigation.

MARQUETTE, MI--   The name of the police officer involved in a fatal accident on M-553 Tuesday has been released.

Just after 4 p.m. a northbound vehicle driven by 80-year-old Nathanial Carpenter of Marquette crossed the centerline and hit a Marquette City Police patrol car driven by Jacqueline Sweeney, 45, of Marquette.

Carpenter was pronounced dead at the scene. Sweeney was taken to UPHS-Marquette, where she is in stable condition.

The accident remains under investigation. Officials believe a pre-existing medical condition may be a factor in the crash.

ISHPEMING, MI--   An Ishpeming man has been killed in a single-vehicle accident in the city.

Police were called Sunday just after midnight to North Seventh Street near New York Street. Officers say a side-by-side driven by William Sharon, 52, had been northbound on Seventh when it left the roadway and struck a tree. Sharon was ejected from the vehicle into the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Ishpeming Police were assisted by the Negaunee Police Department and Michigan State Police.
