CRYSTAL FALLS TOWNSHIP, MI--   Officials have released the names of two people involved in a fatal car accident in Iron County over the weekend.   

Sheriff’s deputies say the rollover crash happened Saturday morning  on the WPA Road near the Deer River Bridge in Crystal Falls Township.

Deputies say Alexandra LaChappelle, 22, of Crystal Falls was killed in the accident.  Anthony Demuri, 23, of Crystal Falls was taken to Northstar Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.  

BATES TOWNSHIP, MI--   An Iron River woman has been killed in a traffic accident involving a plow.  

Troopers from the Iron Mountain Post say the crash happened around 6:15 Wednesday morning on US-2 and Sunset Lake Road in Bates Township.  They say 49-year-old Kristine McKinzey lost control of her vehicle on the snowy and slippery roadway, crossed into the path of a county plow truck, and was hit. 

The driver of the plow, 22-year-old Ethan Amerson of Iron River, was not injured.

MARINETTE, WI--   An Illinois man has been charged in the traffic death of a Niagara, Wisconsin man last Friday night. 

The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office says 43-year-old Joseph Hayes of Lemont, Illinois was driving south in the northbound lane of US-141 in the town of Pound.  He hit a northbound vehicle driven by 21-year-old Kristian Reed of Niagara head-on, killing Reed. 

Hayes has been charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.  He remains lodged in the Marinette County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

ESCANABA, MI--   Trial is set for a Gwinn man accused of causing the traffic deaths of two people in Gladstone.  

Harley Durocher, 24, was driving a logging truck that ran a red light at the intersection of US-2/41 and South Hill Road last March.  The semi struck a vehicle containing Thomas and Barbara Swift of Gladstone, who died of their injuries.  The driver of a third car was injured. 

GLADSTONE, MI--   Police have released the names of those involved in a fatal three-vehicle crash in Gladstone Wednesday.  

Public Safety officials say the accident involving a semi happened around 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of US-2/41 and M-35 and South Hill Road.

Killed in the crash was Thomas Swift, 73, of Escanaba.  His wife Barbara, 73, was taken to St. Francis Hospital, then transferred to Marquette General Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition Thursday afternoon. 

MARQUETTE, MI--   A car/pedestrian accident in Marquette has resulted in a fatality. 

City police say the crash happened Sunday around 8:16 p.m. at the intersection of US-41 and Grove Street. 

Investigation reveals a 53-year-old Marquette resident was trying to cross the highway on foot when they were struck by a westbound vehicle driven by a 35-year-old Chocolay Township resident.  The pedestrian received fatal injuries. 

MENOMINEE COUNTY, MI--   One person is reported dead and another injured, following a single-vehicle accident in Menominee County. 

The Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened Sunday around 11:50 p.m. at the intersection of Range Line Road and M-35.  Upon arrival deputies found the vehicle in the ditch and fully engulfed in flames. 

A passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver was taken to Bay Area Medical Center, then airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, where their condition is unknown. 

No names have yet been released.
