gun ban

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Concerns over security at Michigan’s Capitol building have reignited after the U.S. Capitol came under attack by a mob of President Donald Trump’s supporters last week.

In Michigan, concealed and open carry firearms are allowed in the Capitol. Statewide calls to ban firearms in the statehouse have been made since last spring, when armed protesters entered the Capitol and yelled at members of security outside the legislative chambers to be let inside.

LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel say it’s not too late to reinstate a ban on openly carrying guns at or near polling places on Election Day.

They are appealing a court ruling that struck down a directive from Benson that banned open carry in and near polling places on Election Day.

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Guns can't be banned from Michigan’s Capitol building unless legislators change the law, says an official who helps oversee the building.

John Truscott, vice chairman of the Michigan State Capitol Commission, spoke Wednesday less than a week after some protesters armed with rifles shouted at lawmakers. Truscott says the panel doesn't have jurisdiction to prohibit weapons and it's a “legislative function.”
