head-on crash

PENTLAND TOWNSHIP, MI--   Three people were injured in a head-on collision in Luce County Thursday.

Michigan State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post and deputies from the Luce County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:30 p.m. to M-117 in Pentland Township. They say the northbound vehicle was driven by Eric Nalette of Newberry. The southbound vehicle was driven by Derek Orban and occupied by Jeramie Schultz, both of Alpena.

GLADSTONE, MI--   Gladstone Public Safety officers are investigating a head-on crash in the city. 

They say it happened Tuesday just after 10 p.m. on US-2/41 near Michigan Avenue.  The drivers of both vehicles were taken to different hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

No other details about the accident have been provided.

Assisting at the scene were the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, the Gladstone Volunteer Fire Department, Escanaba Public Safety, and the Escanaba Township Fire Department.

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was taken to the hospital, following a head-on crash in Chocolay Township.

Chocolay Police responded around 8:25 p.m. Tuesday to M-28 near Lakewood Lane. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment. The driver of the westbound vehicle was not injured.

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   Two drivers were injured in a head-on crash in Iron Mountain Saturday.  

The Daily News reports a passenger car was on Hydraulic Falls Road Saturday around 5:25 p.m. when it was struck by an oncoming SUV.  The driver of the car had to be extricated from his vehicle. 

The male drivers were taken to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. 

The Dickinson County Road Commission barricaded both ends of Hydraulic Falls Road and sanded it. 

The accident remains under investigation.  

MANISTIQUE, MI--   A 32-year-old woman is lodged in the Schoolcraft County Jail, following a head-on crash on M-94 in Manistique. 

Police say the accident happened Monday around 2:40 p.m. at the Siphon Bridge.  They say an eastbound pickup driven by the woman crossed the centerline and struck a westbound SUV driven by Franca Catini, 67, of Algonquin, Illinois.  Catini and her 69-year-old husband, Francis, were taken to Schoolcraft County Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

MARQUETTE, MI--   Minor injuries are reported in a two-vehicle crash in Marquette Tuesday. 

The head-on collision happened around 12:45 p.m. on Third Street in front of Snowbound Books.  One person was taken to U.P. Health System Marquette with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Police say slippery road conditions were a factor in the accident.  One of the drivers was cited for careless driving.

MUNISING TOWNSHIP, MI--   An AuTrain man has been killed in an Alger County traffic accident.  

Sheriff’s deputies say the crash happened Wednesday around 4:50 a.m. on Federal Forest Highway 13 about a half-mile south of M-28 in Munising Township.

Deputies say two vehicles crashed head-on, killing Scott Mellon, 20, of AuTrain. 

The driver of the other vehicle, Brandon Lester, 27, of Garden, was taken to Munising Memorial Hospital, treated and released.

An autopsy is planned to determine Mellon’s cause of death. 

ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP, MI--   An Ishpeming man is injured, following an ORV crash in Ishpeming Township. 

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened Sunday around 4:45 p.m. on Deer Lake Road, 3.6 miles north of County Road GM. 

Deputies say the 17-year-old was northbound when he tried to pass another ORV on a curve and hit a southbound Jeep driven by a 39-year-old Marquette man head-on. 

The driver of the ORV sustained serious injuries and was taken to Marquette General Hospital for treatment.
