MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Michigan State Police from the St. Ignace Post are trying to determine the identity of remains found in a burning vehicle Tuesday. 

Troopers were called around 6 a.m. to East Simmons Road in Mackinac County’s Marquette Township on a report of a vehicle that was fully engulfed in the middle of the road. The human remains were found once the flames were extinguished.

Officials say dental records and/or DNA testing will be used to determine the person’s identity.

IRONWOOD, MI--   Officials have released the identity of the remains found March 20 in an Ironwood house slated for demolition. 

Ironwood Public Safety says Gerald Glen Thompson, 80, was discovered in the house during an inspection before it was torn down as a city eyesore. The house is on a list scheduled for demolition under Michigan’s Hardest Hit blight grant program.

Officials do not believe foul play was involved in Thompson’s death.

The incident remains under investigation.   

IRONWOOD, MI--   The remains of a deceased individual were found Monday afternoon in an Ironwood house being inspected for possible demolition. 

The Ironwood Daily Globe reports the person may have been dead for years, and police say it appears the person might have owned the house.  Officials say foul play isn’t suspected, but the incident remains under investigation by the Ironwood Public Safety Department and the medical examiner.

Other information is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.

MUNISING TOWNSHIP, MI--   Michigan State Police have identified human remains found in Alger County a month ago.  

Hunters discovered the remains October 30 in Munising Township.  Dental records indicate the deceased is Victor Wayne Salo, 40.  Salo had not previously been reported as missing because his family says he lived a transient lifestyle and they hadn’t seen him in two years.  Salo was believed to have been camping near the site where his remains were found.
