LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   Lansing’s mayor is asking the governor to activate the Michigan National Guard in the city next week.

Armed protests are expected to take place in all 50 state capitals ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.

Mayor Andy Schor sent the request to Governor Gretchen Whitmer Tuesday, following warnings from the FBI that armed protests would be taking place at state capitols in the coming days.

LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   A bipartisan state board has certified the results of the November 3rd election.

That awards the state’s 16 electoral votes to President-elect Joe Biden.

The canvassers’ vote followed three hours of online public comment with more people lined up to speak.

The action averted fears of a drawn-out procedural fight over the results. Republican Party leaders at the state and national levels had called on the Board of State Canvassers to hold off on certification.

LANSING, MI (AP)--   People waving U.S. and Trump flags rallied at the Michigan Capitol Saturday.

Speakers cast doubt on the results of the Nov. 3 election and encouraged Republican lawmakers to ensure President Donald Trump gets Michigan’s 16 electoral votes. But Joe Biden defeated Trump by more than 140,000 votes in Michigan, according to unofficial results.

Randy Bishop, a conservative radio host, urged Republican leaders in the Legislature to “break the law” and seat Trump electors instead of Biden supporters. The GOP lawmakers have said they won’t do it.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Joe Biden reclaimed Michigan for Democrats with a surge of support in urban regions like Detroit and Grand Rapids, offsetting high turnout in rural and exurban areas for President Donald Trump. Biden’s 146,000-vote margin, 2.7 percentage points, was powered by gains in big, vote-rich counties such as Oakland near Detroit and Kent, which includes Grand Rapids — amid a record 5.5 million people casting ballots statewide. Biden won Oakland by 14 points, besting Hillary Clinton’s 8-point edge in 2016.

DETROIT, MI (AP)--   For many Black women, Sen. Kamala Harris' selection as Joe Biden's running mate represents a full-circle moment after fighting for generations to have their voices heard and political aspirations recognized.

In Detroit, writer and political activist China Cochran says Harris being on the Democratic ticket tells Black girls they can be president. A veteran Democratic political strategist in South Carolina, Antjuan Seawright, says the pick signals the future of the Democratic Party and rewards a group of people who have been the party's political glue.

CHICAGO, IL (AP)--   As presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden begins the process of choosing a running mate amid the coronavirus crisis, managing the pandemic has become its own version of an audition.

For potential picks, lobbying for the job means breaking into the national conversation, positioning themselves as leaders and executing at their day job.

MADISON, WI (AP)--   A liberal challenger has ousted a conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court justice endorsed by President Donald Trump.

Court candidate Jill Karofsky on Monday overcame a successful push by Republicans to forge ahead with last week’s election even as numerous other states postponed theirs due to the coronavirus pandemic.
