LOST HIKER

STRONGS, MI--   A woman who got lost hiking in Chippewa County has been found safe. 

Thursday around 5:35 p.m. Central Dispatch received a call from a man who said his 30-year-old girlfriend was lost in the woods near M-28 east of Strongs.  He said he’d dropped her off around 2:45 p.m. so she could to hiking on the North Country Trail. The man said he received a text from her saying she was lost.

ELY TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Wisconsin woman was rescued after her vehicle became stuck on a two-track road in Ely Township. 

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue were dispatched Tuesday around 7 p.m. to an area about 1.5 miles southwest of Brocky Lake. Katrina Moe, 32, of Appleton had called 911 to say her vehicle was stuck on the Grapevine Trail off of Wolf Lake Road. She said she’d been walking for a couple of hours.

Officers used Moe’s cell phone to get her GPS coordinates. They found her safe and sound. No medical attention was needed.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office rescued a hiker lost in Marquette Township Friday afternoon. 

Around 3:30 p.m. deputies and Search and Rescue personnel were dispatched to the Wetmore Pond area. Kaylee Moreno, 25, of Grand Rapids went for a hike in the area at approximately 2 p.m., lost sight of the trail and became disoriented.

Moreno called 911 and Central Dispatch was able to get her GPS location from her phone. The information was relayed to responding personnel, who found Moreno about a half-mile north of Compeau Creek Road.

MUNISING, MI--   A Wisconsin hiker has been found safe after he became lost at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.  

The Park Service says the 51-year-old man left the Miners Falls trail to fish along the Miners River around 3 p.m. Wednesday and didn’t return as planned.  His brother searched the area unsuccessfully before reporting him missing at 8:35 p.m.

MARQUETTE - A hiker has been found safe after becoming lost near Wetmore Pond. Sheriff’s deputies say 19-year old Melissa York of Harbor Springs was hiking near Wetmore Pond Tuesday night when it became dark and she could not find her way out of the woods.

She called 9-1-1, and central dispatch was able to get a GPS location from her phone. Search and Rescue located her at about 7:10pm on an old railroad grade just east of Wetmore Pond. York did not need medical attention following the incident.
