MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Lexington, Kentucky woman is in critical condition following a near-drowning at Little Presque Isle in Marquette Township.

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post say Thursday around 2:50 p.m. troopers were dispatched to the beach on a report of a missing swimmer. A 42-year-old woman from Kentucky was snorkeling with her family when she went underwater and didn’t return to the surface.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Marquette Township Thursday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched around 4 p.m. to County Road 550 near Compeau Creek. Deputies say a 57-year-old Marquette man was northbound in a Buick Lacrosse when he crossed the centerline and struck a southbound GMC Sierra driven by a 67-year-old Marquette man. The Lacrosse continued northbound in the southbound lane and hit a Ford F550 driven by a 34-year-old Gwinn man. All three vehicles sustained heavy damage.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Marquette Township man was injured in what police are calling a meth fire.

Wednesday around 7:30 p.m. detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team were requested to assist troopers from the Negaunee Post at Whetstone Apartments. Troopers who arrived first at the scene determined a man was trying to manufacture meth when a chemical reaction started a fire in the bathroom of his apartment.

The suspect sustained burns and was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office has developed a suspect in a pedestrian hit and run crash in Marquette Township on May 7. 

Deputies received a tip last week and found a van abandoned in a wooded area on County Road KB near Brown Deer Road in Powell Township. The van was towed to the Michigan State Police Forensic Lab in Marquette for processing.

Police say a suspect has been identified. The investigation continues and a report will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for review.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Mackinac County man has been arrested for hitting another man with a gun. 

Michigan State Police from the St. Ignace Post say the incident happened Tuesday in Marquette Township. Troopers say a 72-year-old resident had stopped to check on what he thought was a suspicious vehicle parked in the yard of an unoccupied residence. The car was actually owned by the 75-year-old property owner.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a pedestrian hit-and-run crash in Marquette Township.

Deputies say it happened Thursday around 3:45 p.m. on County Road 550 near Partridge Bay Trail. A northbound vehicle hit a 23-year-old Marquette man and left the scene.

The pedestrian was taken to UPHS-Marquette with serious injuries.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 225-8434.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two people were taken to the hospital following a crash in Marquette Township Thursday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3 p.m. to US-41 at Wright Street. Deputies say Susan Harris, 72, of Marquette failed to yield the right-of-way as she left Wright Street. Her vehicle struck another driven by Dawn Connor, 48, of Ishpeming.

Both vehicles sustained major damage and had to be towed from the scene.

Harris and Connor were taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of minor injuries.

MARQUETTE, MI--   A missing 14-year-old Marquette Township boy is safe, following a search by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office. 

Sunday around 6:20 p.m. deputies were dispatched to the area of County Road 492 near Grove Street on a report a boy with autism had run into the woods.

Officials say the boy was found in the City of Marquette after a lengthy search. He didn’t need any medical attention and was returned to his parents.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Minor injuries are reported in a two-vehicle accident on County Road HQ in Marquette Township. 

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was called Monday around 5:30 p.m. to HQ near US-41 West. Deputies say a Ford Escape driven by a 21-year-old Illinois woman failed to yield to traffic while exiting the Target parking lot and drove in front of a northbound Subaru Forester driven by a 24-year-old Mohawk man.

A passenger in the Escape—a 19-year-old Marquette woman—was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of minor injuries.

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Negaunee resident has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, following a crash in Marquette Township. 

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched Friday just before 4 p.m. to US-41 near Commerce Drive. Deputies say a Nissan Versa driven by a Negaunee resident tried to cross the highway from the crossover through the eastbound lanes when it failed to yield to traffic. The Versa was struck in the rear passenger side by a Ford F150 driven by a Marquette resident.
