SAGOLA TOWNSHIP, MI--   Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post are investigating an accident caused by fireworks. 

Saturday around 8 p.m. troopers were dispatched to the Silver Lake Resort in Sagola Township on a report that a 50-year-old man had severely injured his hand. A witness said the man was setting up fireworks on their personal property when she heard a “boom” and saw the man lying on the ground. She wasn’t sure first responders would be able to find their camp, so she brought the victim to the resort.

BATES TOWNSHIP, MI--   Serious injuries are reported following an ATV crash in Iron County Saturday.

Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post say it happened around 8:40 p.m. on a private trail near Bates-Amasa Road in Bates Township. Troopers say Mathew Stoychoff, 41, of Hudson, Iowa lost control of his ATV while negotiating a curve at a high rate of speed. The ATV hit a tree. Stoychoff was ejected into another tree.

Stoychoff was taken to Aspirus Hospital, Iron River, then airlifted to Wausau, Wisconsin for further treatment.

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Breitung Township man has been killed in a tractor accident. 

Saturday around noon Michigan State Police were dispatched to a residence on Pine Mountain Road on a report a tractor had rolled over. Troopers say Benie Borkowski, 76, was trying to pull out a downed tree that was wedged in another tree when the tractor flipped backwards onto him.

A neighbor helped pull the tractor off Borkowski, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP, MI--   Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post are investigating the theft of beaver traps Friday.

They were reported stolen from the north shore of Little Bad Water Lake on County Road 607 in Breitung Township. The owner says they were taken between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Anyone with information regarding the traps or vehicles parked in the area is asked to call Trooper Kial Wade at 906-239-6810.

SAGOLA TOWNSHIP, MI--   A man has been killed in a fall at the Louisiana Pacific plant in Dickinson County’s Sagola Township. 

Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post responded to a medical call Friday. Preliminary investigation determined a man was cleaning machinery while standing on a catwalk. He fell and suffered serious injuries.

Lifesaving efforts were performed but the employee was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation. 

SAGOLA TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Felch man had to be extricated from his vehicle following a crash in Dickinson County Tuesday. 

Troopers from the Iron Mountain Post were dispatched around 11:40 a.m. to M-69 just east of M-95 in Sagola Township. A 58-year-old Felch man was eastbound on M-69 and had pulled onto the shoulder before turning left into a driveway on the other side of the road. He pulled into the path of a propane delivery truck driven by a 52-year-old Iron Mountain man.

STAMBAUGH TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Wisconsin man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Iron County Sunday.

Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post responded around 12:20 a.m. to the intersection of Federal Forest Highway 16 and Smokey Lake Road in Stambaugh Township. Investigation determined a pickup driven by Verne St. Pierre, 64, of Phelps, Wisconsin left the road and crashed into several trees.

St. Pierre had to be extricated from the vehicle. He told troopers at the scene he had fallen asleep.

SAGOLA TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person has died in a two-vehicle crash on M-95 in Dickinson County. 

Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post responded Monday around 9:20 a.m. to the intersection on M-69 West in Sagola Township.

A vehicle driven by a 62-year-old Wisconsin man failed to yield for a tanker truck heading north on M-95. The tanker hit the vehicle and pushed it about 550 feet north of the intersection and into the ditch.

SAGOLA TOWNSHIP, MI--   A semi rolled over on M-95 Saturday morning.

Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post say the accident happened around 7:30 a.m. near Johnson Lane in Sagola Township. A semi driven by a 26-year-old Texas man left the roadway and entered the ditch. The truck was top-heavy and overturned.

The driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. M-95 was shut down for about 30 minutes while officials towed the semi back onto the road and cleaned up debris.

NORWAY TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was seriously injured in an ATV rollover crash in Dickinson County Saturday. 

Troopers from the iron Mountain Post responded around 6:55 p.m. to Carney Lake Road near the Carney Lake Campground in Norway Township. They say two men—26 and 29 years old—were northbound in an ATV and hit a curve. The driver lost control and the vehicle ran off the road, struck a tree, and rolled several times. Both men were ejected.
