SOUTH REPUBLIC, MI--   Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post are investigating the breaking and entering of a South Republic business.

Someone broke into Peter’s True Value in the early morning hours of April 1 and took several items, including tobacco and alcohol. State Police evidence technicians were able to obtain prints and DNA samples from the scene.

The owner of the business is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A man is in custody after he barricaded himself inside a Negaunee Township garage and waved a gun at police.

MICHIGAMME TOWNSHIP, MI--   A downstate woman has been killed in a multiple-vehicle crash in Michigamme Township.

Around 6 p.m. Saturday troopers from the Negaunee Post were dispatched to US-41 near mile marker 102. Officers say a Pontiac Aztek driven by a 20-year-old Fenton woman was westbound when she lost control of the vehicle and hit

Two eastbound vehicles.

The driver suffered fatal injuries. Her passenger, a 19-year-old woman from Brighton, was taken to UPHS-Marquette with serious injuries. Two other injured motorists were taken to UPHS-Bell for treatment.

ISHPEMING, MI--   Officials are looking for a runaway Ishpeming boy.

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post say 13-year-old Jamie Crawford left home Saturday around 12:10 a.m. He is 5’4” and 125 pounds with short, curly blond hair and blue eyes.

Jamie was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and a pair of white Vans shoes. He is suspected to be in the Ishpeming area.

Anyone with information regarding Jamie’s whereabouts is asked to call the Negaunee Post at 475-9922 or Marquette County Central Dispatch at 911.

UPDATE: McKelvey returned to camp on her own at approximately 9:00am and is in good health. All units are clearing the incident.

MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI--   Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post and Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a missing kayaker on Lake Michigamme.

Officers were notified Monday around 8 p.m. Melanie McKelvey, 41, of St. Louis, Missouri was last seen Monday afternoon leaving a cabin on the southwest shore of the lake in a red kayak. She was paddling northeast.

ROCK RIVER TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Munising woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Alger County last week.

Troopers from the Negaunee Post were dispatched Friday around 1:10 p.m. to M-67 and Cold Springs Road in Rock River Township. They say a Ford Taurus driven by Patricia Walther, 80, of Munising pulled out in front of a Ford F-150 pickup driven by Robert Lindbeck, 52, of Munising.

Walther was taken to UPHS-Marquette, where she was later pronounced dead.

Lindbeck was not injured.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.

AuTRAIN TOWNSHIP, MI--    A little boy has been killed on the beach in AuTrain Township.

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post say the incident happened Friday at about 12:40 p.m. at a roadside beach area just west of AuTrain.  An 11-year-old boy was digging in a sand dune embankment on Lake Superior when the sand collapsed on him.  

Troopers provided life saving measures along with officers from the Department of Natural Resources, the Alger County Sheriff’s Office and Alger EMS. The boy was taken to Munising Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

TILDEN TOWNSHIP, MI--   Only minor injuries are reported in a car crash and fire in Marquette County Saturday.

Troopers from the Negaunee Post say it happened around 8:25 p.m. on County Road 476 near County Road PFH in Tilden Township. They say a car driven by a 47-year-old Ishpeming woman was northbound when it left the road and hit a large rock. The vehicle caught fire with the driver trapped inside. A passerby stopped and pulled the woman from the burning car.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

CHAMPION TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash in Champion Township on Friday.

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post responded around 8:20 p.m. to US-41 near County Road AW. Troopers say a pickup truck driven by a 45-year-old Ishpeming woman was westbound on a high rate of speed when she lost control of the vehicle. The truck left the road, flipped several times, and came to rest on its side after hitting a tree.

Both occupants had to be extricated from the truck. They were taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment.
