NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A three-vehicle crash in Negaunee Township injured two people.

Michigan State Police say Wednesday around noon a pickup driven by Gary Perala of Negaunee was eastbound on US-41 near Marquette Powersports when his truck crossed several lanes of traffic. It struck two vehicles in the westbound lanes.

Perala was taken to UPHS-Marquette for a non-life-threatening head injury.

One of the other drivers, Donna Eliassen of Negaunee, had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was also taken to UPHS-Marquette with injuries to her lower body.

HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP, MI--   Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Humboldt Township. 

Troopers were dispatched Wednesday around 3:20 p.m. to US-41 just east of Wolf Lake Road. Preliminary investigation indicates a 61-year-old man from Champion drove off the right side of the road. His vehicle came to rest on the driver’s side.

Bystanders found the man unresponsive. He was taken to UPHS-Marquette and pronounced dead.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the accident.

BIG BAY, MI--   Deep snow hindered troopers’ attempts to find a woman reported missing in Powell Township. 

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post were dispatched Monday around 3 a.m. to County Road 510 on a report of a missing person. A 39-year-old Big Bay woman was trying to access a rural camp when her vehicle became stuck in snow and she didn’t arrive where she was expected.

ALGER COUNTY, MI--   A man’s body has been found at an Alger County natural area. 

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post were dispatched Monday around 9 a.m. to Wagner Falls. A report had been made regarding a male subject lying unresponsive on the observation deck overlooking the falls. Troopers arrived at the scene and found a 37-year-old lower Michigan man deceased.

Foul play is not suspected.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Munising Police Department and Alger County EMS.

HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Humboldt Township man is in custody after he fired a gun in the direction of relatives Sunday morning. 

At 9 a.m. State Police from the Negaunee Post were dispatched to a home on a report the suspect became violent during an argument with family over money. When family began to leave the residence, the suspect exited the house with a shotgun and fired it in the direction of their vehicles.

NEGAUNEE, MI--   A Michigan State Police trooper from the Negaunee Post has been recognized for saving a life. 

The MSP Board of Awards reviewed an incident investigated by Trooper Joseph Ballone and concluded he should receive the department’s Lifesaving Award.

On March 5 Ballone stopped a vehicle for speeding. He checked the driver and vehicle identification at his patrol car, but when he returned to the driver he found her slumped to the side with her eyes half-closed. Ballone started CPR when her pulse faded and stopped.

NEGAUNEE, MI--   Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post are looking for a runaway teen boy.

Troopers say 15-year-old Zander Wilson was last seen Saturday around 8:30 a.m. near his residence on County Road 480. Wilson is described at 5’11” and 170 pounds with blonde, shoulder-length hair. He’s known to travel around on a long board skateboard.

Officials say Wilson frequently travels within the Negaunee and Ishpeming city limits.

HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Humboldt Township Wednesday. 

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post say it happened around 12:20 p.m. on southbound US-41, about a half-mile west of the M-95 intersection.

The driver, a 69-year-old Florida resident, died at the scene.

The name of the driver is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office and Humboldt Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.

NEGAUNEE, MI--   The Michigan State Police Negaunee Post is looking for volunteers to help those with addictions get help. 

Officials are asking people to assist with the Angel Program. It allows an individual struggling with an addiction to walk into any post without fear of being investigated or arrested.

SAWYER, MI--   Two people are safe after their plane crash-landed near a field about five miles east of Sawyer International Airport Monday night.

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post say the crash site was on County Road 545 near Falstedt Road. The 48-year-old pilot says he lost engine power while in flight around 8:30 p.m. and had to make an emergency landing. He says he overshot a field he was aiming for, landed on CR 545, veered off the roadway and hit some trees.

The pilot and his 8-year-old son were located outside of the plane, uninjured.
