NEWBERRY, MI--   A Luce County deputy was involved in a shooting early Tuesday morning.

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, MI--   A Chippewa County woman has been arrested on an arson charge.

TROUT LAKE, MI--   Michigan State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post are investigating a breaking and entering at a seasonal residence in Chippewa County. 

Troopers responded to the Birch Shores area of Trout Lake. They say several items were taken.

A suspicious older white panel van was seen in the area around the time the break-in took place.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Trooper Smith at 906-632-2217.

The incident remains under investigation.

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   An Illinois man who went voluntarily missing in the eastern U.P. last week has been found safe and sound.

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   Troopers from the Sault Sainte Marie Post are helping the Lake Bluff, Illinois Police Department with a missing person case.

SOO TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Michigan State Police trooper from the Sault Sainte Marie Post was involved in an on-duty crash with another vehicle Wednesday afternoon. 

The crash happened around 1:50 p.m. near 3 Mile Road and M-129 in Soo Township. The trooper was responding to a hold-up alarm at a local government building when the patrol vehicle was hit by another vehicle attempting to turn into a private driveway.

The trooper was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at War Memorial Hospital. The occupants of the other vehicle refused medical treatment.

LAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Luce County teen has been arrested for killing his 10-year-old sister.

Tuesday around 8 p.m. Michigan State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post were dispatched to a residence in Lakefield Township on a report of a shooting. A 10-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed the girl’s 14-year-old brother shot her. He was found at the home and arrested.

Chippewa County Sheriff's Office

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   A downstate woman was arrested in Sault Ste. Marie on drug charges Thursday.

Around 2:35 a.m. Michigan State Police from the Sault Post stopped a vehicle in the Meijer gas station parking lot near 3 Mile Road. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Tiffany Comstock, 31, of Shepherd. She was found to be on probation and had two active warrants for her arrest.

Following the troopers’ investigation, Comstock was found to be in possession of a substantial amount of suspected meth. Officers believed she was intending to distribute the drug.

MCMILLAN TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Newberry woman was arrested last week for possessing methamphetamine.

Friday around 12:30 a.m. Michigan State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on M-123 near County Road 428 in McMillan Township. The driver—Heather Kimbler, 32, of Newberry—was found to be in possession of meth. She was arrested and lodged in the Luce County Jail.

Kimbler was arraigned Friday and released on a personal recognizance bond with conditions. She’s due back in court december-17th.

KINROSS, MI--   A Kinross man faces felony charges from a domestic violence incident on Saturday.

Troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie Post responded around 8:30 p.m. to a residence in the area of M-80 near Lakeview Road in Chippewa County. The 42-year-old suspect allegedly assaulted someone he was living with and tried to prevent the victim from calling 911.

The man was arrested for aggravated domestic violence, tampering with electronic communications and for violating a personal protection order. He was lodged in the Chippewa County Jail.
