Acting President Satish Udpa began his first official MSU board meeting with an apology.

“I realize the need to formally apologize and to effectively atone...”

Udpa said this is the beginning of much-needed listening.

LANSING, MI (AP)--   No other state tightened its education spending more than Michigan did over a 20-year period, according to a newly released study.

Michigan State University said Wednesday that the state ranked dead last in total education revenue growth between 1995 and 2015. After adjusting for inflation, school revenue was 82 percent of what it was in 1995, after the passage of an education-finance overhaul. No other state was "close to a decline of this magnitude," the research says.

EAST LANSING, MI (AP)--   Michigan State University's Board of Trustees has voted to accept interim president John Engler's resignation, but is making his departure effective immediately.

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Michigan State University's interim president says he's stepping down in a week in response to a request from the school's governing board.

John Engler sent an 11-page letter Wednesday to Dianne Byrum, chairwoman of Michigan State's Board of Trustees. It makes no mention of recent criticism of his remarks about victims of former sports doctor Larry Nassar. Instead, he lists what he considers to be his accomplishments in his one year of service and says the university is a "dramatically better, stronger institution."

LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   Lou Anna Simon is scheduled to appear in front of a judge Monday.

The former president of Michigan State University is accused of lying and/or misleading law enforcement during its investigation into what happened at Michigan State while Larry Nassar was a sports doctor there. Lee Silver is Simon’s attorney.

“I have not seen a shred of evidence to support these charges, which I believe are completely baseless,” he says.
