MARQUETTE, MI--   An NMU fraternity member hit by a vehicle during a charity event November 2 faces a long recovery time.

WLUC-TV reports Leo Maiorana is a 23-year-old sophomore and a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon. He was pushing a bathtub along M-28 near Shelter Bay as a fundraiser for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital when a car hit a safety vehicle behind him. Maiorana was struck by the safety vehicle and thrown from the scene.  

SHELTER BAY, MI--   Three people were injured near Shelter Bay while participating in a Northern Michigan University fraternity charity event on Saturday. 

At about 11:30 a.m. Alger County Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting a three-vehicle accident on M-28. The Alger County Sheriff’s Office, Onota Fire Department, AuTrain Fire Department, UPHS Ambulance, Alger EMS and Wilderness Recovery responded to the scene. 

MARQUETTE, MI--   Fraternity members from Michigan Tech and Lake Superior State University are pushing bathtubs for charity this weekend.

Tau Kappa Epsilon chapters from both schools are leaving Marquette early Saturday morning in a race to see who gets back to their respective city first.  The Tech brothers will push the customized tub about 100 miles, while the LSSU brothers have around 170 miles to travel. 

Tech is raising money through pledges for the Copper Country Humane Society, and Lake State is taking pledges to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
