LANSING, MI (AP)--   Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s office says the state and her former health director have amended his $155,000 severance deal to remove a confidentiality clause that has drawn criticism.

Robert Gordon abruptly resigned in January, the day he issued a coronavirus order allowing restaurants to reopen for indoor dining after a months-long closure. A month later, he signed a separation agreement in which the sides agreed to maintain confidentiality regarding his departure.

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Governor Gretchen Whitmer is facing criticism after the disclosure of another severance deal for a former top health official, after a $155,000 payout to Michigan’s ex-health director Robert Gordon came to light.

The state Department of Health and Human Services said Tuesday that deputy director Sarah Esty also reached a separation agreement, which are highly unusual in state government. Details weren't immediately provided.

Gordon abruptly resigned January 22. At that time, Whitmer wouldn't say if she'd sought his exit.

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is refusing to discuss the circumstances surrounding the abrupt departure of Michigan’s health director during the coronavirus pandemic, including whether she asked for his resignation.

The Democratic governor also declined Monday to set a date for the return of youth contact sports, despite growing pressure after her administration extended the ban through Feb. 21.

LANSING, MI (AP)--   A top health official is defending Michigan’s handling of nursing home residents infected with the coronavirus. 

Robert Gordon is director of the state Department of Health and Human Services. He told lawmakers Wednesday that Michigan's performance is “strong” compared with other states.

MARQUETTE, MI--   The State of Michigan is holding a public forum in Marquette on ways to strengthen its Medicaid-funded behavioral health and developmental disabilities system. 

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Robert Gordon announced in December a plan to strengthen the system by integrating physical and behavioral health payments through Specialty Integrated Plans.

LANSING, MI (AP)--   An executive with the nonprofit that owns the SAT will lead the largest department in Michigan government. 

Robert Gordon was named director of the Department of Health and Human Services by Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Thursday. He's senior vice president of finance and global strategy for The College Board.

He previously worked in the Obama administration, in the Education Department and Office of Management and Budget. He also clerked for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
