LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   The Legislature’s Republican leaders offered mixed reviews to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s proposed agenda for 2019.

State House Speaker Lee Chatfield says he’s still waiting to see details on a spending plan to fix Michigan’s roads. But Chatfield says he’s ready to work with Governor Whitmer on finding ways to reduce the cost of auto insurance.

“And that’s something we need to focus on because as we travel the state, the high cost of car insurance does not discriminate based on political parties,” he says.

LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   Since Governor Gretchen Whitmer took office, it’s been a lingering question

whether the Republican-led Legislature can work with a Democratic governor to solve the state’s problems.

During her first State of the State address, Whitmer made bipartisanship a central theme.

“The enemy is not the person across the aisle,” she said. “The enemy is apathy. The enemy is extreme partisanship.”

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Governor Gretchen Whitmer says she will use her first State of the State address to focus on Michigan's "fundamentals" — such as the roads, drinking water and workforce.

The Democrat will speak Tuesday night during a joint session of the Republican-led Legislature.

She plans to focus in part on the magnitude of the problem with deteriorating roads and bridges, asking drivers and businesses to give feedback on what pothole-ridden infrastructure is costing them. A detailed proposal will likely wait until she proposes her budget in March.

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will deliver her first State of the State address a week later than planned to avoid having it on the same night as President Donald Trump's State of the Union speech.

The Democratic governor will speak Feb. 12 during a joint session of the Republican-led Legislature in Lansing. Her office proposed the new date Tuesday, and House Speaker Lee Chatfield agreed.

Whitmer's address initially was scheduled for Feb. 5, but Trump's speech was delayed due to the record-setting partial shutdown of the federal government.

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Gov. Rick Snyder has touted Michigan's economic and fiscal gains under his watch, saying his tenure has had "huge ups and downs" but Michigan is better shape today than before he took

office.

In his eighth and final State of the State address Tuesday night, the Republican governor recapped many past initiatives but said he has an ambitious agenda for his last year in office with a focus on infrastructure and the environment.

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Michigan Governor Rick Snyder is preparing to deliver his eighth and final State of the State address to a joint session of the Legislature.

The annual speech Tuesday night is a chance for the Republican to focus on Michigan's economic rebound and other successes. He's keeping details under wraps.

Snyder cannot run again because of term limits and is at odds with lawmakers who want to cut individual income taxes.

LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   Snyder focused much of the annual address on his achievements as governor, while also, insisting there is more work to be done.

Unlike last year, when the Flint water crisis took center stage, this year, Snyder did not address Flint until halfway thru his speech.

During the short time he did spend on Flint, he spoke about the work that has been done.

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Governor Rick Snyder will deliver his seventh State of the State address to a joint session of the Michigan Legislature.

Public Radio 90 will carry the State of the State address live beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern.

The Republican's speech Tuesday night comes a year after he devoted much of his address to discussing Flint's water emergency at a time he faced heavy criticism for failures that led to and prolonged the crisis.

Snyder says Flint will be fixed

Jan 20, 2016

LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   Governor Rick Snyder devoted most of Tuesday night’s State of the State speech to the Flint water crisis.

He promised to fix the problems that started while the city was under state emergency management. And he promised to do a better job of helping the public understand what went wrong.
