MARQUETTE, MI--   Officials say a fire in a Marquette garage was likely caused by a chemical used to extract THC from marijuana plants.

The Marquette Police Department says 24-year-old Jacob Thompson, 24, suffered burns to his face, chest and neck in the Tuesday night fire on Summit Street. Officers believe he was using a flammable agent to extract THC, which caused a flash fire.

Thompson was taken to UPHS-Marquette and later transferred to U of M Hospital for severe burns.

Police say they found marijuana wax and oil at the scene.

MARQUETTE, MI--   One person was injured in a garage fire in Marquette Tuesday.

HOUGHTON, MI--   A Hancock man accused of shooting another man with a compound bow and arrow is headed to court. 

James Walters, 58, is charged with attempted murder in the February 13 assault on Summit Street in Hancock.  Police say he shot a 56-year-old man in the shoulder after an alcohol-fueled disagreement. 

Walters remains lodged in the Houghton County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

His preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday.  

HANCOCK, MI--   A Hancock man is in jail, after another man was shot with an arrow. 

City Police say they were called to a fight on Summit Street around 12:30 p.m. Saturday and found a 56-year-old man had been wounded in his left shoulder with an arrow.

A 58-year-old man was identified as a suspect and lodged in the Houghton County Jail.

The victim was taken to UPHS-Portage for treatment of his injuries. 

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident.  No names have yet been released.  

HANCOCK, MI--   A Hancock woman accused of stabbing a 57-year-old man has been arraigned in Houghton County District Court.   

Sarah Youmans, 41, is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. 

Police arrested her Friday around 7:50 a.m. on Summit Street.  The victim suffered stab wounds to his left shoulder area.  He was taken to U.P. Health System Portage for treatment. 

A probable cause hearing for Youmans is set for August 31.  

HANCOCK, MI--   A Hancock woman faces assault charges, following a stabbing incident in the city last Friday. 

Police were called to Summit Street around 7:50 a.m. and found a 57-year-old man with stab wounds around his left shoulder.  He was taken to UP Health System Portage for treatment of his injuries.

The 41-year-old woman was arrested and lodged in the Houghton County Jail.  Her identity is being withheld, pending arraignment.
