swearing in

LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Stephen Markman was busy swearing in lawmakers Wednesday, on the first day of the state's 100th legislative session.

State legislators were all smiles on the ceremony-heavy opening day. But the next few years could be marked by more division than the last eight, when Republicans controlled most of state government.

In November's election Democrats took the governor's, attorney general’s and secretary of state’s offices, while Republicans held onto slim majorities in the state house and senate.

LANSING, MI--   Several U.P. lawmakers took the oath of office in Lansing Wednesday.

Ed McBroom was formally sworn in as senator of the 38th District during a ceremony at the state Capitol. Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Stephen J. Markman administered the oath of office.

State Representative Sara Cambensy was sworn in for the 109th House District for the 2019-2020 legislative session.

And Representative Beau LaFave took the oath to serve his second term for the 108th House District.
