MUNISING, MI--   A Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officer is being credited with saving the life of someone swimming in Lake Superior.

Officer Mark Zitnik was on a boat on Munising Bay Saturday when he heard someone calling for help. Two swimmers had been wading in shallow water on a sandbar about 200 yards from him when they ended up in deep water with a strong current.

MANISTIQUE, MI--   The Manistique Public Safety Department saved some vacationing swimmers from Lake Michigan Thursday.

The department was dispatched around 5:36 p.m. to US-2 and Range Street.  When they arrived they were told three swimmers were struggling in the high waves.

Witnesses say when two young boys started having trouble in the water their father went into the lake to help.  All three were rescued by officers and EMS personnel.
