two-vehicle accident

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person suffered a minor injury in a two-vehicle crash in Marquette Township Monday. 

IRON COUNTY, MI--   No serious injuries are reported, following a two-vehicle accident in Iron County. 

Sheriff’s officials say the accident happened Tuesday around 2:30 p.m. on Bates Amasa Road.  A car reportedly pulled out of a driveway and into the path of a southbound pickup truck.  Both vehicles ended up in the ditch. 

The driver of the car was taken to Aspirus Hospital in Iron River with minor injuries.  The driver of the pickup wasn’t injured. 

Officials say roads were icy and snow covered at the time of the incident.  

HOUGHTON COUNTY, MI--   An Ahmeek woman was taken to the hospital, following a two-vehicle accident near South Range in Houghton County. 

Sheriff’s deputies say the 18-year-old was traveling north on M-26 when she lost control of her vehicle and slid into the southbound lane.  She hit another vehicle driven by a 26-year-old woman from Hancock.

The Ahmeek woman was taken to UPHS Portage with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The second driver refused treatment.  

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person is hospitalized, following a two-vehicle crash on US-41 in Ishpeming Township. 

State Police from the Negaunee Post say it happened Sunday around 12:20 p.m. at the intersection of Cooper Lake Road.  A Honda SUV driven by Gavin Gibson, 29, of Montana was southbound on Cooper Lake Road and attempted to cross the highway, but pulled into the path of a westbound Ford pickup truck driven by Frederick Furneaux, 51, of Lapeer.  The truck hit the SUV’s driver side door, sending the vehicle across the road into the eastbound lane and onto its side. 

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Only minor injuries are reported in a two-vehicle accident in Marquette Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 1:15 Tuesday afternoon on US-41 near Brickyard Road.  They say Courtney Almli, 21, of Marquette pulled out of the Lowes parking lot into the path of a westbound vehicle driven by Gary Vought, 50, of Three Lakes, Wisconsin.

Vought was taken to UP Health System Marquette for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

Almli was cited for failure to yield.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Three people were taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle accident in front of Wal-Mart in Marquette Township. 

Sunday around 11:10 p.m. sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of US-41 and County Road HQ.  They say a Dodge Neon driven by a man from Kingsley, Michigan failed to stop at the flashing red light while leaving Wal-Mart.  His car was struck by a westbound GMC Yukon driven by an Ishpeming man. 

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident in Sands Township over the weekend.

State Police say it happened Saturday around 3 p.m. on M-553 near County Road 480.  A Toyota Camry driven by Scott Weiser, 50, of Gwinn was stopped on 553, waiting to turn left into the Crossroads Shell gas station, when it was struck from behind by a Chevy Traverse driven by Kristy Sorensen of Gwinn, 33.

Sorensen was treated at the scene and released.  Weiser was taken to UP Health System Marquette for treatment.

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle accident in Sands Township near the Crossroads.  

Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Wednesday around 1:40 p.m. to M-553.  They say Stephanie Lukkonen, 19, of Gwinn turned left in front of a vehicle driven by Ethan Ledford, 19, of Marquette.

Lukkonen complained of a sore neck and was taken to UP Health System Marquette for treatment. 

She was found to be at fault in the accident and ticketed for failure to yield.

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Gwinn woman has been injured in a two-vehicle accident in Sands Township. 

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Thursday around 11:45 a.m. on M-553 just south of County Road 480.  Helga Turner, 74, of Gwinn was southbound on 553 when she said her windows fogged up and impaired her vision.  Her Subaru apparently crossed into the northbound lane and hit a pickup truck driven by Anthony Erickson, 16, of Skandia.

MARQUETTE, MI--   One person was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in Ishpeming Monday morning.

City Police say Thomas Beauchamp, 57, of Marquette was turning onto US-41 from Second Street around 8 a.m. when he was struck by a westbound DNR truck driven by Jason Peterson, 43, of Marquette.  Witnesses say Peterson ran the red light.

Beauchamp had to be extricated from his vehicle.  He was taken to UPHS Marquette, where he remains in serious condition.
