LANSING, MI— The Upper Peninsula unemployment rate edged down 0.6 percent to 5.2 percent in May.
That’s one percentage point less than a year ago.
The number of employed people rose by 3,100 from April to May, while the number of unemployed dropped by 700.
Dickinson County had the lowest unemployment rate in the U.P. in May, at
3.9 percent. Ontonagon County had the highest, at 7.8 percent. Marquette County’s jobless rate was 4.8 percent.
And the statewide unemployment rate for May was 4.6 percent.
