Seeds and Spores farm hit by fire

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, MI--   Fire has destroyed a barn at a Chocolay Township farm.

WLUC-TV says the fire was reported around 4:45 Monday morning at the Seeds and Spores Family Farm on Greenfield Road.  Officials say the barn was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived.

The owner of the barn says thousands of dollars of meat and fertilizer were lost in the blaze, but no people or animals were injured.

As of 5:30 a.m. firefighters from Chocolay Township, Sands Township, Skandia-West Branch and the City of Marquette were at the scene.  Officials are advising people driving US-41 in Chocolay Township to be on the lookout for fire trucks as they fill up with water from local rivers.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
