New bishop introduced to Marquette Diocese

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Diocese of Marquette has a new bishop.  

Pope Francis has named the Reverend John Doerfler to the post.  Doerfler was most recently the Vicar General of the Diocese of Green Bay.  He becomes the 13^th bishop, following Alexander Sample, who served the diocese for seven years and was named Archbishop of Portland, Orgeon in April. 

Doerfler has been a priest for 22 years.  He was born and raised in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Doerfler will be installed as bishop February 11 at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette.
