WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Two Upper Peninsula fire departments have been awarded grants to help purchase equipment.
The money comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
The Houghton Fire Department will receive $92,296, and the Kingsford Fire Department will get $29,939. The funding at both departments will be put toward the purchase of personal protective equipment.
Eligible fire departments and Emergency Medical Services organizations can apply for Assistance to Firefighters Grants. The competitive grants help first responders purchase the equipment and obtain the training needed to handle fire-related hazards.
