Firefighters called to Coplan Iron & Metal in Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI--   The Escanaba Department of Public Safety was called to another scrap yard fire on Monday.

Firefighters were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. to Coplan Iron and Metal Company on a report of an explosion and fire. Upon arrival officials found a pile of scrap vehicles emitting heavy smoke and flames. Coplan staff used heavy machinery to move the piles of scrap around to help firefighters extinguish the blaze.

The fire did not affect any buildings and no injuries were reported.

Pete’s Auto Wrecking in Wells Township was destroyed by fire earlier this month.
